American Cruise Lines

This Columbia River cruise offers the best of the Pacific Northwest and, for the first time, the convenience of a round-trip from Portland. Much of your time on this cruise is spent in the Columbia River Gorge, a national scenic area and the only navigable route through the Cascade Mountains.

During your cruise, we offer a carefully curated package of shore excursions that take you to some of the areas' highlights including the famous Multnomah Falls, Mount St. Helens, and Fort Clatsop where Lewis & Clark spent the winter of 1805-1806.

I had a wonderful, relaxing vacation! I will have great memories for a long time to come.

Day-to-Day Itinerary

Pre-Cruise - Portland, OR

Each Columbia and Snake Rivers itinerary comes complete with a Complimentary Pre-Cruise Package, providing you with a seamless way to board the ship and explore the local area. Arrive the day before your scheduled cruise date and American Cruise Lines will handle the rest. The package includes a premium hotel stay, where you can enjoy the city at your leisure. On the morning of the cruise, meet in the hotel lobby after breakfast and we will transport you to the ship to begin your cruise. All luggage will be brought directly from the hotel and placed in your stateroom aboard the ship.

*Pre-Cruise Package is not available for reservations made within 30 days of cruise date.

Day 1 - Portland, OR

At the confluence of the Columbia and Willamette Rivers, Portland was a sanctuary for pioneers and is a fitting place to start your journey. The city is surrounded by national parkland, but also offers an array of museums and shopping. If arriving a day early, visit the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum or the Portland Art Museum.

Day 2 - Astoria, OR

The oldest American settlement west of the Rockies, the town of Astoria is steeped in culture and tradition. From more than 70 Victorian-era homes to the replica of Fort Clatsop, where Lewis & Clark spent the winter of 1805-1806, Astoria is alive with history. Astoria is well-known for being an integral part of the lucrative fur trading industry in the 1800's with the Pacific Fur Company building its primary trading post in the town in 1811.

Day 3 - Mount St. Helens, WA

Perhaps the most impactful of all landmarks in the region is Mount St. Helens. From high on an overlook, bear witness to the awesome power of the volcano whose eruption in 1980 scorched 230 square miles of forest land and forever changed the landscape. Expert guides will show you the pumice plain and lava dome as they explain the impact of the volcano had on the lives of those in the surrounding towns.

Day 4 - Stevenson, WA

Multnomah Falls is the landmark of the day. After cruising past the waterfall, we will bring you to the falls for an up close view of one of North America's tallest waterfalls. Stroll along the footpath to Benson Bridge for the best view of the 620-foot plunge. The village of Stevenson has a classic small town charm with a unique Northwest flair and is easily accessible from our dock.

Day 5 - Portland, OR

End your cruise back in the city of Portland. The red brick of Pioneer Courthouse Square and the beautiful fountains of Waterfront Park can easily fill an afternoon. The Saturday Market, one of the largest farmer's markets in the United States, is also a one-of-a-kind experience and the ideal way to conclude a week in the Northwest.

Queen of the West

Queen of the West

The 230-foot Queen of the West is propelled by a three-story-high churning paddlewheel. But unlike earlier paddlewheelers, the Queen of the West doesn’t rely on a steam engine. Instead, it is powered by a revolutionary hydraulic propulsion system that uses environmentally safe biodegradable hydraulic oil. The 45-foot-long bow ramp allows passengers to go ashore anywhere along the river, much as the 19th-century vessels did. Launched in 1995, the Queen of the West is the first overnight passenger sternwheeler to be built and operated in the West in 80 years. View ship details...
