VTA - Voyage to Antiquity

Enter the Arctic Circle on this spectacular maiden voyage for 2019, departing from London and cruising through the breathtaking fjords and stunning natural landscapes of Norway’s North Cape, to the remote ports of Harstad, Honningsvåg, as well as the traditional wooden houses of Tromsø.

Along the way visit Lerwick in the Shetland Islands and see some of the island’s world-famous ponies. Stroll through one of Norway’s biggest ports, Bergen, then step ashore in another brand-new port of call for Aegean Odyssey, Ålesund, at the mouth of the Geirangerfjord, which is renowned for its abundance of Art Nouveau architecture.

Explore Norway’s Viking capital of Trondheim, where the Nidarosdomen is also the most northerly medieval cathedral in the world. Visit the charming 18th and 19th-century wooden houses of Stavanger, then experience an overnight stay in the Danish capital of Copenhagen, one of the friendliest and most beautiful cities in Europe.

England's Capital City

A 2-night hotel stay in the British capital starts this incredible cruise to the Arctic Circle and beyond. Starting with a scenic cruise along the majestic River Thames from Tower Bridge to Westminster Bridge. You’ll then enjoy an orientation drive and photo stops at Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace. Time later to hit the shops or take in a West End show.

The Remote Shetland Islands

Departing from Tilbury, Aegean Odyssey heads north for Scotland. With a day at sea there’s time to get to know the ship and take in a lecture or two, before your arrival in Lerwick, the capital of the Shetlands. As well as seeing the famous free roaming ponies, you may have the opportunity to visit the remarkable archaeological site of Jarlshof, tour Scotland’s most northerly town, or visit Lerwick Castle.

Bergen, Harstad and the Lofoten Islands

Bergen is a beguiling city. Flourishing by the early Middle Ages, its heritage can still be glimpsed in the beautifully preserved wooden houses of the Bryggen district, Here, a funicular will take you to the top of Mount Floyen for stunning views over the city. Other landmarks include Hakon's Hall, the Rosenkrantz Tower and the Mariakirken, Bergen’s oldest building. Entering the Arctic Circle, you will then get your first taste of perpetual daylight, as the sun dips briefly into the sea, creating amazing colors and a sense of a continual sunset and sunrise. Arriving at Harstad, the rocky peaks and coastal flatlands of the Lofoten Islands are all the more atmospheric in this light.

Cruising Norway's North Cape

When Aegean Odyssey reaches Honningsvag (North Cape) at the northernmost tip of Norway you will witness the purest form of Midnight Sun to be found anywhere on earth. It’s a truly otherworldly experience in a realm where the sun never dips below the horizon at this time of the year, and we celebrate at midnight with cocktails on deck.

The coastline of the North Cape is equally spectacular, as are the traditional wooden houses of Tromso and Trondheim, Norway’s former Viking capital, where the Nidarosdomen is the most northerly medieval cathedral in the world.

The Norweigan Fjords

Cruising the majestic fjords of western Norway, you can enjoy an optional experience from Hellesylt to Geiranger. Along the way see the pretty waterside village of Stryn and the deepest lake in Europe, the Hornindalsvatnet. Lunch will be served at the Jostedalsbreen National Park Centre, overlooking the mountainous Oppstrynsvatn lake. Following a guided tour of the botanical garden, you will then ascend Mount Dalsnibba to an “invisible” viewing platform at its summit which creates the illusion of floating in space as you look down at the distant Geirangerfjord, over one and a half thousand feet below. Or, enjoy an included tour of UNESCO Geiranger.

Alesund, at the mouth of the Geirangerfjord, is renowned for its abundance of Art Nouveau architecture while Gamle in Stavanger is another of Europe’s best-preserved settlements of wooden houses and is filled with fairytale white cottages dating from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Copenhagen: Denmark's Jewel

Arriving in Copenhagen, Aegean Odyssey will berth overnight near the famous Little Mermaid statue, giving you plenty of time to see the city’s many sights, including the Royal Winter Residence and the Rosenborg Castle, home of the Danish Crown Jewels. You may also like to visit the picturesque medieval fishing village of Dragor, a cozy, picturesque maze of cobblestone streets lined with colorful hollyhocks and yellow painted houses, before disembarking for the return home.

Aegean Odyssey

Aegean OdysseyWith just 350 passengers, the Aegean Odyssey is no "floating city." She is small enough to sail rivers and put into the more characterful ports inaccessible to the "mega-ships," the service is more personal and you get plenty of time to interact with the onboard experts.
