VTA - Voyage to Antiquity

This Norwegian odyssey begins with an overnight stay in the Danish capital of Copenhagen, one of the most beautiful cities in Scandinavia and recently voted one of the friendliest cities in the world. Cross the Kattegat Sea to the historic Old Town of Grenaa and another Nordic capital, magnificent Oslo, a place of Viking heritage, extraordinary modern art and medieval architecture.

In Flam, enjoy a ride on the scenic railway and cruise the Sognefjord, the largest and best known fjord in the country. Stroll through one of Norway’s biggest ports, Bergen, then explore the spectacular landscape surrounding the village of Geiranger and the port of Olden.

With shore excursions in the cities of Stavanger and Kristiansand offering more opportunities for discovery, you will also spend a day in the Scottish capital of Edinburgh, to experience all its main sights, before your cruise comes to an end with a two-night hotel stay in London.

  • Panoramic tour of Copenhagen
  • Randers and Danish fairy-tale country
  • Explore the Norwegian capital of Oslo

Danish Delights: Copenhagen and Aarhus

Joining Aegean Odyssey in Copenhagen, your ship will berth overnight near the famous Little Mermaid statue, giving you plenty of time to see the city’s many sights, including the Royal Winter Residence and the Rosenborg Castle, home of the Danish Crown Jewels.

You may also like to visit the picturesque medieval fishing village of Dragor, before cruising north to the Jutland peninsula for a fascinating stroll around the open-air museum of Den Gamle By, which superbly reconstructs the atmosphere of medieval Aarhus. Alternatively, take a tour to the charming 17th-century Baroque castle of Clausholm and another medieval marvel, the city of Randers.

Oslo: City of Culture

Surrounded by stunning countryside, Norway’s capital is also a city of magnificent culture and history. Among the sights are the medieval Akershus Castle, the Viking and Kon-Tiki Museums of the Bygdoy district and the National Gallery, which houses many masterpieces, including a version of Munch’s ‘The Scream.’

From Kristiansand to Bergen

The architecture of Kristiansand’s traditional Kvadraturen Quarter is diverse and striking. Here you will see the 17th-century Christiansholm Fortress and the open-air Vest-Agder Museum, featuring over forty pre-20th century buildings. Gamle in Stavanger is also one of Europe’s best-preserved settlements and is filled with fairytale white cottages dating from a similar period.

Tucked away at the far end of Aurlandsfjord is the tiny village of Flam, best known for its railway. The route runs for just 12 miles but is perhaps the most dramatic train journey in Europe, climbing 2,845ft above sea level alongside the Sognefjord, which you will also cruise aboard Aegean Odyssey.

Surrounded by seven hills and seven fjords, Bergen is a beguiling city. It’s heritage can still be glimpsed in the well-preserved wooden houses of the Bryggen district, where a funicular will take you to the top of Mount Floyen for stunning views over the city.

Cruise deep into the Fjords of Norway

Aegean Odyssey then drops you in the charming village of Hellesylt for an optional overland experience to Geiranger. Along the way see the pretty waterside village of Stryn and the deepest lake in Europe, the Hornindalsvatnet. Enjoy lunch overlooking Oppstrynsvatn Lake and ascend Mount Dalsnibba for incredible views of the distant Geirangerfjord far below. Alternatively, enjoy a panoramic tour of UNESCO Geiranger.

The hamlet of Olden is delightfully situated in the Oldendalen Valley, at the head of the Nordfjord, where towering mountains surround Lake Oldenvatnet, which owes its intense green color to thawing glacial water.

The mighty Hardangerfjord cuts a steep-sided rocky path through Norway’s lush steep-sided valleys and mountainous interior for over 100 miles all the way to the picturesque town of Eidfjord. Here the impressive Voringsfossen waterfall plunges nearly 660ft down the mountainside.

Britain's Great Capitals

With a full day at sea there’s time to relax before arriving at the port of Rosyth, where the day will be spent touring Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital, including the Royal Mile and the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Our final port of call is London, where a 2-night hotel stay includes a morning sightseeing featuring Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, and a cruise along the River Thames from Tower Bridge.

Aegean Odyssey

Aegean OdysseyWith just 350 passengers, the Aegean Odyssey is no "floating city." She is small enough to sail rivers and put into the more characterful ports inaccessible to the "mega-ships," the service is more personal and you get plenty of time to interact with the onboard experts.
